Brandy

Brandy is a spirit made from distilled wine. Brandy generally contains between 35% and 60% alcohol by volume and is typically consumed as an after-dinner drink. The word “brandy” originated from the Dutch word brandewijn, meaning “burned wine.” Brandy is produced by distilling wine in a pot still or a column still. The resulting liquid is then aged in oak barrels for a minimum of two years. After aging, the brandy is blended with other spirits to create a uniform flavour profile. Popular brands of brandy include cognac, armagnac, and calvados. Brandy can be enjoyed, on the rocks, neat, or mixed in cocktails.
