Penfolds Grange 2001 750ml
Deep crimson. Fresh praline, plum, blackcurrant aromas with cedar, herb garden notes. Very tightly structured wine with red plum, blackcurrant, roasted coffee, liquorice flavours, fi ne dense muscular tannins and plenty of mocha oak. Finishes chalky firm but fruit persists. Generously proportioned with a solid structure. Starting to drink really well now, but many years to go.
Varietal: 100 per cent shiraz
Vineyard/region: Kalimna Vineyard, Barossa Valley
Vintage report: Winter rains replenished soil moistures, which sustained vineyards during a very hot, dry summer. By late February to March cool, dry conditions prevailed. A very good vintage.
