The original and most powerful expression of Penfolds multi-vineyard, multi-district blending philosophy, Grange is arguably Australia’s most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Crafted utilising fully-ripe, intensely-flavoured and structured Shiraz grapes, the result is a unique Australian style that is now recognised as one of the most consistent of the world’s great wines. With an unbroken line of vintages from the experimental 1951, Grange clearly demonstrates the synergy between Shiraz and the soils and climates of South Australia. The wine is unmistakably complex, flamboyant and lifted. The earthiness is well integrated with the aromas of dark fruits, grounded coffee, red liquorice and black olives, which leads to a firmly structured finish. The 2013 vintage is 96% shiraz, 4% cabernet sauvignon from the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra and Magill Estate, matured for 20 months in new American hogsheads.

Yes. Penfolds Grange is Australia’s most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. There is no definitive answer to this question as different wine enthusiasts will have their own opinions. However, many experts believe that the 1994 vintage is one of the best released. This was a year when conditions were ideal for producing high-quality Shiraz grapes, and the resulting wine has been described as “opulent” and “full-bodied”. If you are lucky enough to come across a bottle of 1994 Grange, it is worth trying!
There are a few reasons why Grange is such a special wine. Firstly, it is made using a blend of Shiraz grapes from different vineyards and districts in South Australia. This gives the wine its unique flavour profile that is loved by so many people. Secondly, Grange is always made with fully-ripe Shiraz grapes, which ensures that the wine is packed full of flavour. Finally, the Grange winemaking team has decades of experience perfecting their craft, which show in the consistently high quality of each vintage.
Grange is best enjoyed in a large wine glass that allows the aromas to develop. It also benefits from being allowed to “breathe” for around 30 minutes before drinking. This gives the wine time to open up and reach its full potential. When served at the perfect temperature, Grange is a truly remarkable wine that should not be missed!
